Ambient music has been existing for a long time, it was pioneered by Brian Leno during the 80’s as a project aimed to create music that tries to create a perfect balance between disappearance and presence. Most ambient tracks are usually instrumental and are based on electronic instruments.
Though it has existed for a long time now, ambient music doesn’t have a lot of success when it comes to mainstream crowd as a lot of people sees it as something “too smart” or “overly deep”. But I beg to differ, I see this type of music as something a lot more simpler and relatable than any other genre, it provides listeners the freedom to give their own stories to the music. It allows the audience to give their own meaning to a track or a song and embed them to their own experiences or emotions. The songs evolve from just the artist’s self expression into something other people can express themselves. For example, an artist might have composed a song that was originally about his sadness about a certain thing but in another’s perspective, it’s about happiness because that was what the listener was feeling when it heard the song and isn’t life all about that? Everybody giving a different meaning to all sorts of things? Not being told that there’s just one general way to view things?
What is Paincake Patrol?
Paincake Patrol is an electronic music project from Cubao, it was created back in 2011 as a recording project of Eeman Bulotano, Frustrated over conflicting schedules between his previous bandmates, Eeman created Paincake as an experimental solo project focused on creating alternative electronic and ambient music, which reflects about Eeman’s experiences and views about existence. With the belief that music relieves one’s memories, Paincake Patrol produces music that aims to elicit nostalgia. Paincake wants to make music people can listen to without having to ignore the person standing next to them. Music that makes you makes you think but yet somehow not distracting at all.
After just recording things for 5 years and releasing it on Sound Cloud, Eeman decided to do live gigs in 2015 and started to take the Paincake Patrol project a little more serious. Though he still does bandmate duties with his current band Audio Drive Thru as their keyboardist/synths, Eeman manages to keep the balance between the two projects as he loves the music both parties produce. 6 months later after his first live gig in 2015 and after playing a lot more and meeting a lot of people, Paincake Patrol is releasing an EP titled “//Social Constructs”. Based heavily on how he views about existence and reality.
What is the EP all about?
The EP “//Social Constructs” reflects the artist’s view about the general meaning of existence and how empty it may seem when viewed in an objective and logical way. The first three tracks aim to reflect the existential angst and loneliness one might experience when they fail to see reason behind life. The goal of the EP though is for Paincake Patrol to share his belief that defining your own meaning is a life worth living vs a life defined for you by consensus and “logic”, that our purpose is for us to manufacture alone. The EP is scheduled for release this December with an accompanying event which will be announced in the following days to come.
